As of 1 February 2018 Sandija Novicka is appointed a partner and head of Tax Law practice group in Latvia. Her strong background in taxation and years of experience from a variety of tax planning projects and disputes will considerably strengthen COBALT’s partner team.
Ms Novicka has been with the firm since 2006 and has successfully led large number of most complex assignments, in particular advising on tax structuring of transactions and investment projects, as well as representing clients in tax litigations. In 2017 she represented clients in many significant tax, corporate, litigation and public procurement assignments, including work in a project team of creating Luminor bank, advising Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs International and Société Générale on tax aspects in relation to a dual-tranche Eurobond transaction by the Republic of Latvia in an aggregate amount of EUR 350 million, managers (SIA Oribalt Group) of the Baltic entities of pharmaceutical wholesale company Oriola on tax aspects in the management buy-out of Oriola’s Baltic businesses, Prezi, the visual presentation platform, in respect of grant of employee stock options, assisting US tech and social media company Snap Inc. on tax matters, and representation of Riga International Airport before the European Court of Justice.
Ms Novicka is a Chambers & Partners and Legal 500 recommended practitioner in Tax. She holds a Master in European and International Law from Riga Graduate School of Law, and a bachelor degree in law from the University of Latvia.
She is a board member of the Latvian Association of Tax Advisors and has experience as a long-time lecturer at the Latvian Judicial Training Center, Latvian School of Public Administration and Riga Graduate School of Law on taxation, EU law and state aid topics, and has written extensively on those subjects.
