COBALT supports the Estonian and Lithuanian pavilions at the 60th Venice Art Biennale

2024 - 04 - 11

COBALT and the Estonian Center for Contemporary Art (KKEK) and Lithuanian National Museum of Art signed an agreement to support the Estonian and Lithuanian pavilions of the 60th Venice Art Biennale.

This year, sculptor Edith Karlson represents Estonia at the oldest and most important international contemporary art event.

“COBALT has been a supporter of KKEK and thereby the Estonian pavilion of the Venice Biennale since 2013. At that time, the convincing presentation of the project by Maria Arusoo, head of KKEK, became decisive. Now, already participating in the 5th Biennale, we can say that this support has become part of COBALT’s essence. We also decided to fill our newly renovated office with modern Estonian art, because it also has a deeper meaning for us as a company,” explains Peeter Kutman, partner of law firm COBALT, who is also the chairman of the KEKK council, justifying the long-term cooperation.

The Pavilion of Lithuania at the 60th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia stages Inflammation, an installation by artist duo Pakui Hardware that features paintings by Marija Teresė Rožanskaitė (1933–2007). Opening on 20 April 2024, the immersive, site-specific project explores the inflammatory effects of current economic and social conditions on human and planetary bodies.

Occupying the Sant’Antonin church, which hosts a pavilion for the first time, the exhibition presents modern figurative paintings by the late Marija Teresė Rožanskaitė alongside a site-specific installation comprising aluminium and glass sculptures by Pakui Hardware.

Lithuania has been participating in the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia since 1999. The Lithuanian Pavilion has been awarded a special mention four times, and in Biennale Arte 2019 it won the Golden Lion.
