A court ruling has entered into force, dismissing a lawsuit against the Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism Re:Baltica for the retraction of false defamatory news, the deletion of a photo and an apology.

The case concerned a lawsuit in connection with an article published by Re:Baltica in 2016, ‘Traces of the Uzbek special services in Latvia’ (original article in Latvian: ‘Uzbeku specdienestu pēdas Latvijā‘).

The court inter alia concluded that the applicable legal rules do not provide a right to seek the withdrawal of conclusions which the claimant himself has subjectively drawn from a publication if the disseminated information is true.

Representation of the Baltic Center for Investigative Journalism Re:Baltica before the court was ensured by Senior Associate Linda Bīriņa.
